anyone know a good way to loose a gut??

I need a decent routine to help me loose my gut. I was thinking crunches and running but maybe someone on here has had some luck and would be willing to share.

Simple

Stop drinking, eat right, break a sweat 3x / week

And a sit up or two would not hurt

See OP's avatar.

The answer is easy, doing it is the hard part.... Eat right. You can eat ice cream, steak, burgers, fast food, whatever you want and still look amazing, but you've got to be switching it up a lot and not just eating the same shit all the time. Working out a bit might also help.. but some people work out like crazy and see no results, because the way they are eating is horrible.

Drink lots of juice.

Drink water instead of soda.

Cut down on bread or rice. Eat moderate amounts of pasta instead.

Do half situps when you can, then start doing full sit ups.

You can't spot reduce, you have to lose weight overall. Eat less and/or exercise more combined with strength training and sit ups, you should see results.

Cut out all sugar in your diet. Stock up on aspirin for the withdrawals though.

That's it in a nutshell. Also change your eating habits, stop eating fried foods and replace with filling low calorie items. Sure they don't taste as good but don't pack around your waist either. But ultimately burning it off via sweat routine combined with proper nutrition is the key. After all though, theory is simple, implementation is the bitch. I think you already know what you need to do...

No Beer or red meat? I'd rather die ... and it wouldn't matter anyway, because life without a steak and/or beer isn't worth living skinny or fat.

yeppers. I've lost 6kg since January just from doing that (and still mostly sitting on my ass working ) .. only had the occasional game of golf and hour out at the driving range.

It's the scientific fact to losing weight. you can eat all the weight watchers' meals you want but if you're eating more calories than you're burning, WW won't work.

Eat negative calorie foods because they take more calories to digest these things than what you're consuming (ie more calories burned than consumed).

That and staying off alcohol - esp. beer .

80% of weight loss is diet 20% is exercise, too many people when trying to loose weight over train from the beginning, they have a goal which is great but the body can only handle so much, in most cases people who are overweight are also inactive so take it slow at the start, recommended 3 exercise session per week, weight training is the best...why? Simple really here is a fact “Muscle eats fat" never loose sight of this fact.

Many people who join a gym will use the treadmill the most, simply because they know how to use it press start and away you go, let’s say you can perform cardio for 45 minutes at the most you will burn is 400 - 600 calories if you're good when you stop so does the calorie burn.

Lets take a look at muscle, weight training causes the muscle to overload in turn muscle with proper rest and nutrition will grow stronger, we call this Muscular hypertrophy, so what you say? Glad you asked remember the fact “Muscle eats fat" when finished with training you take your muscles home unlike the treadmill.

Do I avoid the treadmill? No.......After weight training when you have depleted your energy (glucose) which we call anaerobic, running which is called aerobics using continues oxygen will in fact cause the body to convert fat back into an usable energy source.

Hankphone, Diet is key, eating smaller meals throughout the day is the best way, Protein (Greek word for first importance) must be in every meal, Breakfast simply means breaking your fast so make sure you eat first thing upon wakening and again it MUST contain protein no ifs or buts.

Protein does not last in your body the whole day it has a limit depending on what type of protein most last between 3-4 hours, what happens after, your body will cannibalize other muscle, we call this being in a catabolic state destroying one muscle to support another, now were back to the that simple fact "muscle eats fat" so don't let this happen.

We work 8hrs, sleep 8 hrs and play 8hrs, so we are up 16 hrs, if protein , which builds muscle is used within 3-4 hours we should then divide that into the hours we are awake which will be roughly 5 so that means you should eat 5 small meals throughout the day.

If you are interested to know more or even a simple menu plan let me know and I will add to this post otherwise I might be putting people to sleep.

burn more cals than you eat ...........
This is true, OK so how many calories are you eating, how many calories are you burning?

Now it doesn't become so simple, this is where most people fall apart, knowledge is useless without understanding, if you go too low then your body goes into survival mode and stores calories, metabolism start to slow down and the biggest consumer of calories (muscle) gets sacrificed.

So I hear you scream "Hey buddy I ate once a day and lost a ton of weight" Yeah you did but I can guarantee you it wasn't fat, before you were 130kg @ 30% bodyfat and now you're 100kg at 30% bodyfat woohoo congratulation you have just scaled yourself down now you are a smaller version of a fat you.

1kg fat = 7000cals this is what you need to burn off extra but keeping in mind your BMR (basal metabolic rate) the amount of calories your body needs at a resting state, you know the cals your body needs to keep the heart and brain happy, as you can see the above statement just become a little more complex.

If you are interested to know more or even a simple menu plan let me know and I will add to this post otherwise I might be putting people to sleep.
yeah!, I am actually interested in an example meal plan. Great info so far!

There is no easy way to lose a gut. If you're serious about it, then do abdominal exercises every single day, 7 days a week. Nothing too intense, just 25 ab crunches to work out your upper abs, and 25 abdominal leg raises to work out your lower abs. 6 months of that and you'll be able to wash your clothes on your stomach.

whatever you do, don't get suckered into some miracle pills, all you need is a little work and some discipline...

When you fill your plate with food, put half back. Do this each meal. If you do get hungry later just eat a small bite to tide you over.

This is easy to do, and you don't even need to be stringent about it, just a little less here and there plus excersize will do the trick.
