I was in Vegas at that time, unfortunately not present at that incident. if it is correct that Carlos has pushed the chip at Derek and refused to take it back, then his drunken ass should have cost him $500 - no doubt. We all make stupid mistakes when being drunk that cost a lot of money sometimes, i could list a few of mine as well (it mostly revolves around strip clubs). And I know Quagmire and have no reason to believe he makes stuff up.

From my point of view it just looks a little different: no matter how the chip changed ownership, Derek had agreed to return the money. Which would be very generous if Carlos really refused to take it back in his drunken stupor.

But now we have a completely new situation - now we have someone who promised over the course of 2 years payment multiple times and never kept his word. Who wanted to make a payment plan for $150 and did not keep another promised payment of $50 on the 16th. And this is from my point of view not acceptable.

But never in this process, at least not to my knowledge, Derek has indicated that he thought that this money was given to him as present and that he thought that he could keep it. If that would have been thrown into discussion, I probably would have suggested a 50/50 and everyone get over it.

But promising payment and not keeping the promises is what got me annoyed.

I hope that cleares that up.

I'm of that belief that once you give someone a present, you have no right to claim it back afterwards if you change your mind.
You can ask the person nicely if he/she wants to give you a present (back), but at that point it is no longer your property.


The rest of the story could have been better handled. You need to forgive each other, and forget about this issue, now when the money has been paid.

Oh FFS, I was there that night and I remember this to an extent.
The reason I remember this night is because it was the night Bryan dropped a $100 chip on the floor at the BlackJack table and I finally found it after 10mins of looking. Carlos was at our table as well. I remember him knocking over a beer bottle on the table that spilt on his leg and he didn't notice or care. Man the Palms carpetting is fucking ugly

Anyways, at one point later in the night Dwreck came over with the $500 chip in his hand. He told us that Carlos gave it to him wouldn't take it back. There were a few people around when Derek was telling us this but I honestly can't remember exactly who outside of Bryan and I.

Shortly thereafter Carlos came over and put his arm around Dwreck. Dwreck tried to give it back and Carlos put up his hand and said "no, its yours."
Now Carlos was fairly smashed as has been stated already, so who knows what he could have been thinking. But I do remember Derek trying to give the chip back.

Dwreck even asked people what he should as he really didn't seem like he wanted it. Of course at this point some people said keep it, and others said give it back.
I remember the phone call at the airport because we were on the same flight and even took the same taxi to the airport. Last thing I remember was that Dwreck said he'd work it out with Carlos during the week.

This is what I got out of this thread...

-Carlos when drunk pretends he's a baller by giving away $500 chips.
-Carlos when sober thinks there should be no repercussions for his drunk actions.
-Derek spent $500 when he should have kept it in his pocket, not knowing what kind of character Carlos really is...or lack of character he has.
-Derek felt guilty about spending money that seems to be rightfully his and agreed to pay it back.
