We need to finish building that big wall across the border. Keep everybody out. We've already got the news organizations that don't tell us what's really going on in other countries and the govt. propaganda that tells us how much better we have it than every other country on earth. And we have a big list of "evil" countries to keep growing the military.

This sounds PERFECT. Just another reason why we're number 1! Nobody else could have come up with these ideas!

Oh, wait a minute. The Soviet Union did the exact same thing after WW2, and continued until Ronald Reagan famously said to Gorbachev: "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall!"

Have the people in this country really done a complete 180 from supporting freedom to now wanting to act like the Soviets of the cold war era? I thought we were taught that they were the bad guys?

Gee, I wonder who the world now considers to be the bad guys? We've occupied Germany and Japan since the end of WW2 for fuck's sake.

No one in Arizona seems to notice or care that he was shot by drug dealers that just happen to be illegals. Instead they seem to see this as an opportunity to brand immigrants the same as drug dealers. I would say the problem has more to do with failed drug policy and border security then it has to do with illegal immigration. Hope the office makes a full recovery though he didn't deserve to pay that price either way.

Jane, my point earlier is that people are going to do what they want to no matter what the govt. says or does.

People have been smoking pot, snorting coke, and everything else for a looooonnnnnnngggg time. And they are going to do it no matter what some old men in Washington D.C. decide for us.

And guess what? MORE people than ever before are doing drugs.

So if we are already doing more recreational drugs than any other country in the world irregardless of what our corrupt govt. tries to do...Then why not just make it legal, stop the violence and all those people getting killed and tax it?

I left home at 17 and I don't need a goddamn govt. trying to be my "daddy" and tell me how to live my life. And now the chickens are coming home to roost in the form of border violence. End the war on drugs and you end the border violence. It's really that simple.

Just google up "Prohibition" and see what happened with alcohol and all the violence...and how it ENDED instantly when alcohol was legalized. This ain't brain surgery, and it doesn't require us to keep making MORE fucked up laws and it doesn't require us to start acting like Nazi's or Stalin-style Soviets either.

Just give the citizens of the United States the freedoms that we are SUPPOSED to have and have the govt. stop trying to play "gotcha" at every damn corner and that "problem" on the border is over.

We aren't building a wall that separates people and families from each other, straight through the middle of a Country. And here, everyone is freely allowed to cross legally - HUGE difference!

Even with the wall, people can travel freely between the two Countries - that so not Germany, in anyway.

This timeline is just to get your case processed for a green card, not a US citizenship.
It takes 5 years to become a citizen AFTER you become green card holder, plus about a year to get your papers processed. So your friend is on time. No problem there. Imagine having your mother wait 6 years just to get a visa to come visit you.

The law is already in place. If you're illegal in the US for more than 6 month you cannot get a visa. if you're legal resident and commit a crime, you legal status will be revoked.

FYI:
It takes less than a year for independent immigrant with skills to get thru Canadian immigration. Family cases take less than six month. It takes 6 years for the US. 6 years just to get a visa for your mom/dad/ etc.. If its you brother/sister its more like 12.

While I see your point, how is this government going to use a system like 2 strikes you are out, when they can't even keep the individuals that haven't even got strike one out.

The bottom line is to take away the jobs....source of income, make fines for employers so severe that only a stupid contractor/employer would dare to disobey and the problem will almost resolve itself.

I lived and worked on a Visa in Canada. They make the Company prove no other Canadians can do the job before they allowed me in. If any other Canadian could have done my job, I wouldn't have been allowed in.

I know a friend married to a Canadian and it took several years for him to legally get into Canada. His parents can't migrate to Canada, but his Kids can. Like wise, I have a friend married to an American born in a different Country, it took equally as long for everything to come through. His parents can visit as often as they long, even for long periods of time, but they can never migrate here.

It's not easy anywhere... you should have to wait years. Non immediate family members shouldn't be allowed to migrate with anyone, and if they can it should take 2-3 times longer as they have no reason to be here.

Independent "Landed Immigrant" Visa takes about 9 month to process in Canadian Consulate in Buffalo, NY.
I have done it myself. You do not need a company invitation or secured spot. You need to pass self assessment test and see if you have enough points to qualify for "skilled worker" program.

I would say the problem has more to do with failed drug policy and border security then it has to do with illegal immigration.
