You must be bored man to ask such questions, lol!

Aspartame is bad. I prefer Stevia, a natural sweetener in my tea.

Bread, is okay in limited quantities. But only 100% whole wheat or better yet sprouted grain bread which has a lot of whole proteins.

Potatoes. Good in limited amounts, whole white potatoes, and sweet potatoes, even mashed is okay. French fries not so much!

More importantly you should be focusing on eating a lot of green veggies, whole fruits and white meat protein with each meal like chicken, turkey,or fish like tuna!

In all seriousness, I would have to look up the thread. But it was in reference to a remark from the Doc. I mainly ask because aspartame is in Crystal Light, Diet Coke, among many other things.

I do not mind that Zevia cola. Although at $7.50 a 6 pack it makes me chuckle.

I simply switched to grain wraps.

Awesome. Mashed potatoes here I come!

Yeah. I have switched almost completely to turkey and chicken (substituting it in meals), cutting out the ground beef. I can only take so much tuna. Although I did find a delicious dill tuna salad recipe yesterday.

Apartame - That's a no from me.

Bread -- People have been eating bread for thousands of years. Eat it in moderation, go with the whole grain.

Potatoes -- Lots of nutrients in a potato, especially the skin and just under it (which most people sadly peel off and throw out). They're just fine to eat, jut don't eat 20 a day or always have the fries. Ease off on the salt.

If you think cutting sugar out of your diet, or down to 15g per day is difficult. That's NOTHING compared to getting your salt down. Especially in anything processed!

I want to get into grinding my own wheat berries (and other grains). Nothing you could buy would be any fresher or natural than using your own ground flour to make breads.

If a bread molds up quickly, it's probably pretty natural though.

I find that sugar diet 15g per day thing to be quite ridiculous, if not downright UNhealthy to be honest. It's about people messing with their blood sugar levels, and it includes those simple naturally-occuring sugars in natural foods on it's hit list, and those sugars are what the body easily metabolizes for energy to do everything from lifting the remote to, well, breathing. Focusing on sugar intake to that extreme isn't the answer.

Salt, well, I just never add salt to food once it's on the plate. Period. I add a pinch here or there into the recipe when needed (mostly seasoning salt, not pure table salt) but that's it. I reach for the pepper when I need to shake something on the food.

And I don't eat a shit-ton of pre-cooked frozen "processed" food, but some of the ones I do buy are on the low salt "blue menu" line. Still not as good as making something with fresh ingredients and cooking it yourself but few of us have time to do that every day.

not many types of breads that are bad for you, but i've heard there are some that have high fructose corn syrup in them in the US some how so i would avoid that all together, other than that there is just more benefits in whole grains really.

a good read on all the good things with potoatoes, this site is non propaganda fueled and non profit with a complete reference list.. http://whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=48

As for aspartame? i'm sure there are better things you could be eating instead however it remains one of the most tested food additives ever and there has yet to be any conclusive evidence supporting it causes any harm in anyone... That being said it's also one of the most consumed additives in north america... wouldn't there be some sort of grand scale epidemic if it were that harmful?

aspartame is evil

Whole grain bread is great unless you have a gluten allergy

Potatoes are good too, baked and eat the peel too

There are a lot of studies going around that are saying although the "diet" substances by themselves may not be all that bad for you, it's the psychological effect that will whack you. Diet soda, extra Big Mac!

My theory is if I'm going to have a soda, I'm going to have a soda. But I only have one. Screw diet. Regular gives me the rush I want, 160 calories, and I'm not eating other crap to fulfill my sweet craving.

Aspartame = Poison

From here http://www.naturalnews.com/024302_as...diet_soda.html

When the temperature of the artificial sweetener Aspartame exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in it converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which causes metabolic acidosis [Aspartame Toxicity Center, (www.holisticmed.com/aspartame) , (www.loftymatters.com) ; also Splenda & other dangerous sweeteners, (www.mpwhi.com) . Additional information at (www.TruthAboutSplenda.com) ]

Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is. Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that Aspartame is the culprit. Its continuous use irritates the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition [Ibid]

Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/024302_as...xzz1DJ8jV HzD

As for bread, go for Gluten and Soya free. Gluten is the glue that holds bread together, our bodies can't break it down well. As for Soya 90% of it is GM, so keep clear

With potatoes it depends how they are cooked. Fries from a fast food joint are always bad. If a potato has got the skin on that's generally a good thing

almost had me there, but all the related articles sound exactly like propaganda and the sites that back up any of these claims don't seem to be non profit sites either, which would lead people to believe they have motives or are indeed selling something else...

Aspartame: Is a laxative. Also, causes developmental abnormalities in those under 24 years of age. Has links to Alzheimers too.

Bread: Wheat is bad for you. Period. The human body is not supposed to process glutens. Linked to anxiety, digestive issues and oils/bacteria in skin. For some people, the presence of glutens is life threatening. Wheat is necessary for breads and pastries and such that require they rise while cooking though. While wheat is generally bad for the human body, the gluten protein is pretty much packed with enough energy to keep you going when you don't eat enough. Products made with rice flours tend to be healthier, digest easier and just as high in protein.

Potatoes: Nothing really wrong with them. However, high levels of starch and carbs. People who generally have digestive issues tend to have symptoms heightened by presence of starches in food. And as above post mentions, skin left on poptoes IS good. Adds fiber and minerals to your diet.

Want to be healthy? Limit amounts of wheat, aspartame and starches in your diet and replace with foods high in fiber such as Hemp Hearts (also extremely high in protein and omega 3-6-9 fatty acids), green veggies and any fruit or vegetable that is not processed in any way.

I've changed my diet to follow these thoughts and I have so much more energy, shit normal again and don't get sick nearly as often. I also went from 196lbs to 174lbs since middle of december.

Those sites make a few $'s, but when people see Donald Rumsfeld's name connected to Aspartame they should start to pay more attention. Aspartame is a billion dollar industry. Look at how rich the Sugar companies are, now others have found a way of taking a slice of that

There's a lot of info out there on Aspartame, it should never have been allowed through. A lot of back-handers smoothed it's journey onto the market

Here's a short video, but there's a lot more if you do a few Googles https://youtube.com/watch?v=ErngurkB3J0

Interestingly this is being discussed on another site today too

Aspartame is bad no matter what way you slice it.

Bread: Wheat or white, it's still highly refined carbohydrates which spike your insulin levels when you eat them because your body digests them faster than it would normally digest grains. ONLY bread that's really good is whole grain, because it's lower on the GI and digests better (without spiking insulin levels and therefore storing glucose as fat).

Potatoes are good in moderation, it's always a good thing to rinse them to reduce the starch.. The way you cook them has a major effect on their healthfulness, as well. Obviously baked is the better way to go.

1. Very Bad
2. Try Ezekiel bread....that way you get your bread fix but the grains are stripped and there aren't sweetners added.
3. Potatoes are ok in moderation...I would sub sweet potatoes anywhere you can and still use in moderation

I don't think white bread is "bad" - it just doesn't hold as much nutrients as wheat bread.

I drank diet coke for almost 20 years from 1981 when it came out, literally all day every day until about 2001. Very little water. Bottled water was barely available in those days. I began to taste formaldehyde inside me. True. That is one of the things it gives off in digestion. (I now know)

Most people didnt know it was bad for you in the 80's or 90's.

And yes I started to put on weight about the same time. Maybe it was the Diet Coke and not the Blue Cheese dressing.

Aspartame - bad

Bread - whole grain stuff, use as less as possible or will gain weight

Potatoes - boiled are the healthier... go good with fish (fish salad...), don't use much of those either or will also gain wait

The real question in 2011 with sweeteners is.. is maltitol safe? The Russell Stover Sugar Free candy sells like crazy now days. Very good but still artificial. Does not attack the teeth tho which is awesome. You could save a few crowns.

But whoooa dont eat too many.

The best bread is the sprouted whole grain out of the healthfood section freezer. I like a REALLY whole grain. Get the 100% wheat one tho.. the 7 grain is like sawdust. Either way you need lots of spread BUT you have serious fiber. win-win And high octane food. Must be toasted of course.

Brand: Food For Life, Ezekiel 4:9, 100% Whole Wheat

White bread is about the worst thing for you. Worse than snickers bars. Well ok, but as bad. Cause it sticks to your teeth and innards. White flour and water = paste. It's like slow desolving cotton candy to the body.

Do as I say not as i do tho..

I just had chile (with crackers - white as i gets) and if you want to live without pasta which is also basicly white flour.

Is anything more convienent or better than a little pasta, some real parm on that and maybe a litl Smart Balance for a 33 secs in the micro.

So good but sooo fattening and so in the teath. When you add shredded parmesan you have what was paste (pasta and water) and added steel reinforcement. But it is sooo good at the moment.

I went thru a half box of "shells" pasta (4 oz) and two 5 oz tubs of Beliogiosi (sp) shredded parm cheese in about a week. I gained two pounds but I am so happy and energized.
