I edited it because it's ultimately a futile argument and a waste of my time, and yours.

I'm actually not even a fan of the 1500+ days retention on Usenet. It's something Giganews started years ago, and that every other provider was forced to keep up with, and has resulted in most of those providers, that were formerly run by Usenet enthusiasts, being swallowed up by bigger corporations.

The character of Usenet changed with binaries, and spam, and it died completely with the advent of 3 year retention and the demise of the old services. I also can't stand the fuckwits who see it merely as an alternative to torrents or other forms of piracy, rather than understanding what Usenet actually is, or was.

That said, regardless of what I think of Usenet these days, the bottom line is you are not capable of doing anything to the major providers and everything you post about Usenet is hot air.

Leaseweb Wipes All Megaupload User Data, Dotcom Outraged

He had 690 servers rented.. That should tell everyone how big of a business this is.

Ohhh "Butt" the Huge Piece of Schmitz is outraged.

He will have to put down another 15 thousand calories of comfort food to feel better now.

I would hate to pay his grocery bill or his server bill for that matter.

dgraves 06-20-2013 02:52 PM

It's not easy work stealing content. First you have to right-click and "Save file as...", then you have to left-click the "upload" button. It sounds easy but do this a few thousand times and it adds up. It can take a toll on your mouse hand.

Nah, it is easier then that. If you read on their favorite sites, the real work comes when collecting their "earnings".

DepFile is done, was denied a merchant account and has closed it's affiliate program.

On the 10th of June HenchFile.com removed it's affiliate program and on the 22nd of June ceased to provide file storage space - so in effect it's done. The fact is that this host was shaving it's affiliates hard for the duration of it's operation. On the 27th July 2012 Andrew Storey, owner of HenchFile.com made a legal threat to us - he was full of hot air and now is just another thief ripping off other thieves.

7 large resellers have been reduced to only accepting OKPay or Webmoney today, we are now working with more payment companies than ever to crush the reseller market.

More and more eBay auctions of file locker accounts are being shut down, eBay has introduced measures to make such listing more difficult to make and for each one we ask that Paypal kill the sellers Paypal account for good measure.

We still have much work to do, however it's becoming obvious that the people who run and aspire to run small to medium file lockers are now finding that the economics of the venture just don't exist anymore.

AdultKing 06-25-2013 06:50 PM

One year ago today this thread started and we're still going strong.

This next twelve months I want to aim to put the following sites out of business.

DepositFiles.com
Rapidgator.net
FilePost.com
DownloadNoLimit.com
FileFactory.com
letitbit.net
netload.in
hotfile.com

The remaining file lockers will find that over the next twelve months it becomes increasingly difficult to process payments through any means.

This is a big year ahead. What we have learned in the last twelve months will be applied to new and bigger challenges. No file locker is safe.

AdultKing 06-27-2013 03:14 AM

Interesting to note the changes to LIBERTYOFMIND.COM, Kaktuz must think changing registrars will protect his domains. Silly boy.

I'm sorry, I did create an account on that site however I really have had very little time to spare in recent times. I didn't ignore you - your request is on my to-do list which is quite a long list.

There are some very exciting things happening for this project right now, I hope that in the very near future I shall be able to make some announcements that will place fear and uncertainty at the feet of several large piracy sites.

The end is near or so it seems. Granted alexa ranks based off of metrics from where webmasters visits but keep in mind that this can also be representative of people finding it no longer worth their time to upload content to sites.

Hotfile.com is all but dead and a mere shadow of what it was in 2010.

Rapidshare had to fire most of it's staff and now looks like it'll have to close up shop before too long.

Letitbit.net seems to be getting redirect traffic from downloadnolimit.com and it too has significantly declined.

Since the beginning of the year, rapidgator has lost a lot of traffic.

Luckyshare has nose dived as well

Any sites out there where webmasters are sharing information on pirates? Such things as IP addresses of VPS and such.

Not that I am aware of, we keep our own database of intelligence.

The guys at nukepiracy released some info on their cashwhore blog.

Last I heard they were working on a large database merged from both link sharing sites and several file host databases.

The guy I speak with that works there said something about tracking a specific user from upload to link sharing to payment. When/if it happens it is going to be interesting to see what can be done with the information.

Tough to tell what is going on there, they have been tight lipped and quiet for a while.

It's nothing like it was in the Megaupload days but it's there.

You know it's actually useful now. I'll admit I've used it on several occasions for legit cloud storage.

Thanks I?ll give it a look.

I know others could probably use the information I gather and I could probably use some information they gather. That?s more of what I was looking for. An information sharing site.

Seems kinda stupid for everyone to fight it on their own and keep such valuable information like IPs and fake signup names to their selves.

But I guess most people have turned fighting piracy over to someone else. And they don?t even know what happens on their own sites anymore.

Sharing this data publicly is a stupid idea, sorry to be so blunt but it is.

When you share such information publicly you're just helping the pirates get better at covering their tracks. Why do you think so many people try and goad us into telling them more about what we do and how we do it ? They are desperate to know how we know what they are doing and how better to cover their tracks.

The IP's and fake sign up names are just two sets of data out of hundreds of sets of data that can be used to follow lazy pirates, when they keep using the same IP or sign up names they are giving us a way to track them. Publicly sharing this and other information just helps them get better at avoiding detection.

The most constructive thing anyone can do to help in this effort is keep supplying copies of DMCA notices to [email protected] , to keep submitting piracy reports at http://copycontrol.org/report-piracy or to make a donation via Paxum or Paypal to [email protected]

Nobody has been as effective at hurting the pirates than us, we continue to crush their financial accounts and monetization methods bit by bit, it's much harder to monetize file lockers in 2013 than it was in 2012 or 2011, or earlier. We've moved on to other forms of piracy that fit into the eco system as we seek to further reduce the effectiveness of the pirates and their networks. However to keep doing this we have to keep the pirates on the back foot.

Please don't hurt our efforts by engaging in public information sharing of the various vectors and data that helps us do what we do. We can only continue to be successful by keeping the pirates guessing, keeping them in the dark until they wake up one day and find another merchant account or Paypal account shut down.

johnnyloadproductions 07-10-2013 10:57 PM

I made a post about depositfiles.com being all but gone but I'm guessing it's because they're shifting over to dfiles.eu and dfiles.ru? This probably won't help them at all.

Images attached to clarify:
Depositfiles.com
http://i.imgur.com/28q3Ryd.png
dfiles.eu
http://i.imgur.com/Ral1dVv.png
dfiles.ru
http://i.imgur.com/lqTh3ru.png

dfiles.eu and dfiles.ru redirect to Depositfiles.com
I don't think having a different TLD extension would grant immunity to your merchant account.

johnnyloadproductions 07-10-2013 11:05 PM

Just plugged in the number of views divided by the number of posts in this thread, just under 86 views per post (more than usual). Upload monkeys and file locker owners must be quietly watching this thread like a hawk. Would be interesting to know how many are subscribed to it and where.
