Wonder what the work ethic of most of the vets is like. Wonder if they are just resting on self generating business or whether they still work as hard as when they were newbs.

Have noticed some veterans starting to launch their own webmaster resource sites, and hitting the boards more. Could that be the sign of the slowdown we all know is happening?

Wrong...once upon a time, in the days of the BBS -prior to the birth of the net, this business was about selling. These days, it does not take a salesman to make it. Now it takes the ability and the desire to scam and cheat the surfer.

A truly successful person could build a business by offering a good product at a fair price. The majority of today's webmasters are no different then the weasels you find in boiler rooms, bilking poeple out of their earnings.

personally, I used to work much harder. Then we got fat and happy and started working 9-5
I really don't consider posting like this "work"
Plus, most of our people work normal hours as well. I'm not making any big deals after hours so why bother.

perhaps you should make new contacts.
there was no money in the BBS days so stop pretending there was and confusing newbs. You didn't make any money then either.

Do thumbnail preview web sites like teeniefiles.com make less profit than text link web sites like thehun.net because thumbnail preview web sites consume too much bandwidth?

I would think so, all other things being equal.
I also think there is a chance that some galleries are passed over because of a bad looking thumb.

Read between the lines, old stale one....

In the days of the BBS, it was a community....no such thing as credit card processing, and deceptive marketing. To gain access, the surfer had to drop off a real check or cash. (Most BBS's were local). That way, the surfers were real people that you looked in the eyes when they handed you their fee...

But I digress...the real point of my post was to say that you are fooling yourself if you think yourself a great businessman. The part you should be focusing on is where I call scamming webmasters nothing more then the same calibre of weasels that work the phonelines, or sells non-existent home improvements. If you fit this description..so beit....

Who owns what in this board?

For example:
Voodoo -> pichunter.com
12clicks -> standardinternet.com
Lensman -> adult.com

I only need to know about the biggest webmasters.

The part you should focus on is that just because successful people puzzle you, doesn't mean they aren't playing by the book.
but you go one yelling sour grapes. after all, its all you';ve got.

the owner of the hun is named Patrick (last name withheld because I don't know that he uses it himself online)
I send him checks every month.

Parney is a she, however, Parney does not own thehun.net.
Parney handles the advertising for the hun. The owner of the hun is a he named Patrick.

Amateur. I'd partner with a couple of internet illiterate girls and expand from there.

I have a question. Do you see per sign up going away as a profitable business model?
With recurring at an all time low, tighter regs from visa/mc hurting a lot of companies with questionable billing practices, and the increase in pop up blocking software and browsers lowering revenue from exit traffic, not to mention the increase in fraud on the part of the webmaster AND the surfer, I just don't see it lasting forever.

My guess is that payouts will have to be lowered for the per sign up programs, and perhaps per sign up won't be offered as an option to new webmasters until they've sent traffic for a certain period of time.
Start them off in revshare and offer them per sign up only after they've proven themselves to be honest.

Your thoughts?

Ahhh, but you miss the point once again...

But I must prepare myself for your next powerful onslaught...what will it be next, o yee master of nothing....

Let's look in the 12 Clicks chest of witty repetoire....

a) I make nothing...yep, right on time, you used that tired approach already

b) I should post again when I get back from my day job....hmm, that's always a popular one with you

c) Do I want fries with that....I'll give you a few minutes before you bring in that one

But, once again, if you somehow miss the point of my post...

Honest and Integrity = good
Scamming and cheating = not so good

If this still does not register, don't worry yourself little fella...

Awesome thread 12clicks! Definitely motivating for me. Ever notice how once people have enough money rolling in every month to live comfortably, they slow down working? I've been so lazy this winter. Just the spanking I needed!

I have a question or two, if somebody has asked any of them already please just disregard it.

What has been the greatest challenge for you in the business world?
What challenges do you think you will be facing in the years to come?
Do you believe that somebody can make it big as an employee?
Where do you see this industry in 2, 4, and 6 years?

Well first of all, did you know that mojo ran the second pay per signup program ever run? freshteens.com which he sold off long ago.
Today, for some unscupulous sponsors, pay persignup is the only way they could be profitable (if you know what I mean)
Also, the way to solve the popup blocker problem is for ALL content to open in a new window. Force these free loaders to view pops and exits.
Guys with deep pockets will always be able to pull off the pay per signup model unless the CCs do away with reccurring billing.
fraud on the webmaster side is still a problem believe it or not. Some guys would get away with it because they have all of the pieces in place but give themselves away out of stupidity.

Thanks NineNine and sausage but I can handle this light wieght.
The thing you've got to remember about these bitter nobodies is that for the last 6yrs, they've watched their betters excel in this business while they put on the paper hat every day. After 6yrs of failure, they chalk it up to their betters cheating their way to the top. The don't have the ability or imagination to succeed in this business so they've come to the conclusion that it can't be done.

This is the easiest job you'll ever have! why shouldn't you work hard to succeed at it?

What has been the greatest challenge for you in the business world?
Staying motivated, continuing to spend time thinking of the next big thing even as the current big thing is bringing in 7 figure checks monthly, shifting gears as major changes effected our business (this happened 3 times to us), and most of all remembering that most of my detractors on chat boards are 20somethings who won't be her next year.

change. We've been at the top of our game for a while now. We have much more room to go down than up. This business has become a high wire act where the wrong step could literally kill you.

No, but they can learn to make it big by being employed by the right people.

I couldn't tell you. too many things are in flux. CC issues are a huge factor. Another factor is how well the adult world canablizes itself. The only thing that saved TGP guys and other small players is the fact that the bottom dropped out of bandwidth costs.
If they had remained high but conversions still dropped off as they have, most small guys would have been priced out of playing.

hmm, I made a bad analogy. there are plenty of 20somethings making it big. I'm more talking about guys who after making 20 bucks for beer money are now going to tell me how wrong I am about things.
you know what I mean.

Real business is done thru checks and wires. If you've never had a problem with paypal, you're one of the lucky few.
I would never EVER trust them with my money.

sure, I think epassporte has its place in this but how would I replace them? with wires and checks. I never understood the need for paypal in the first place.
